Damage and Theft Waivers

Rates include coverage of passenger liability and third party motor liability. Such cover being subject to the terms and conditions of the Avis policy and insurance as is customary in this country. Cover for loss by fire is also included together with cover for damage to the Avis car but may not include loss or damage through civil unrest.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Avis offers you the the choice of two optional Collision Damage Waiver Insurances.

Option 1 - Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) Limited Cover

Choosing this option, means that in the event of an accident, the renter is responsible for up to a specified amount as indicated on the Rates Table, for damage of the vehicle and/or any part thereof, or the cost of damage repair, whichever is the lower.

Option 2 - Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) Super Cover

This option means that the renter will be liable for a reduced, non-waivable excess which lowers the responsibility of the renter for payment arising from collision damage caused to the vehicle or part thereof.

Note: In the event of an accident occurring when the vehicle was not driven by the renter, or other authorized driver as nominated on the rental agreement, the renter will be responsible for the full damage to or loss of the vehicle. The renter will also be responsible if the vehicle was driven on unsuitable roads, if the renter was driving negligently or if no other car, animal or object was involved.

Declining Option 1 and 2

The renter has the option to decline either CDW or SCDW, in which case the renter is liable for the full amount of damages incurred, or the full responsibility amount (as reflected in the Avis Rates Table) and Avis will require an additional deposit to cover current responsibility.

Theft Loss Waiver (TLW)

Avis offers you the choice of two optional Theft Loss Waiver Insurances.

Option 1 – Theft Loss Waiver (TLW) Limited cover

Choosing this option means that in the event of theft of a vehicle or part thereof, the renter is responsible for up to an amount as indicated on the Rates Table*, for the replacement of the applicable loss by theft. Personal property is not covered. (*This value is double for weekend rentals)

Option 2 – Super Theft Loss Waiver (STLW) Super cover

Choosing this option means that the renter will be liable for a reduced, non-waivable excess, which lowers the responsibility of the renter for payment arising from the theft of a vehicle or part thereof (unless breach of contract or negligence occurs). Personal property is not covered.

Declining Option 1 and 2

In the event that the renter declines TLW, the renter will be responsible for the full amount of damages incurred or the full responsibility amount reflected in the Avis Rates Table. If TLW is declined, Avis will require an additional deposit to cover current responsibility.

Note: In the case of CDW and TLW for rentals originating in SA, and driven into Namibia or Botswana the conditions for CDW and TLW of these countries will apply. Please consult your Avis Rental Sales Agent.

Personal Accident Insurance Cover (PAI)

The renter who accepts Personal Accident Insurance as well as all other passengers in the vehicle will be covered for accidental bodily injury while driving, riding in, getting into or out of the Avis vehicle. Coverage is in effect up to "return date" indicated on the rental agreement or any Avis approved extension. The insurance will apply to persons up to the age of 75. The death benefit in respect of persons under 15 years of age shall be limited to R10 000. The benefit will be divided equally among all occupants of the insured vehicle.

Notice: The insured shall give immediate written or telegraphic notice to Avis of any claim and in any event within 90 days of injury. Avis acts as agent for Accident and Miscellaneous Acceptances, who is the underwriter of the PAI Policy. All benefits in terms of the PAI Policy are subject to the terms and conditions of the underlying policy.

Accidental Death & Permanent Disability

We will pay R200 000 per person per incident and limited to R500 000 per Avis vehicle per incident in the event of accidental death or permanent disability.

Emergency Medical Expenses

We will pay up to R250 000 per vehicle per incident for emergency medical expenses incurred whilst driving, riding in or getting out of an Avis rented vehicle.

Guaranteed Hospital Admission

We will guarantee up to R5 000, which guarantees admission to the hospital. This is refundable by the member or the member's medical aid.

Contingent Liability

Up to R2 500 000 Contingent Third Party Liability Cover for the driver of the Avis vehicle in his/her personal capacity

Funeral Benefits

Upon the death of the driver of the Avis rented vehicle, we will make the necessary arrangements to return the body to the driver's home town and will further pay up to R20 000 towards the deceased driver's funeral.

Travel Delay Cover

We will pay up to R 2000 towards transportation or accommodation should the member be stranded after a mechanical breakdown or after a motor vehicle accident.

Emergency Medical Assistance

• 24 hour medical advice service
• emergency dispatch of response vehicle or ambulance
• inter-hospital basic and intensive care ambulance transfers
• air ambulance transfers
• dispatch of emergency medicines or blood
• medical assisted repatriation to the patient's place of residence
• assistance of stranded minors
• repatriation of mortal remains
• emotional support and counselling
• HIV counselling
• access to rape crisis center of excellence
• travel advice through SAA / Netcare travel clinics

Note: The policy does not cover any loss from intentionally self-inflicted injuries, suicide or any attempt threat, sickness or disease, full time active service in the armed services of any country or declared or undeclared war. This leaflet is for illustration only. Full details are contained in the Master Policy that will be made available for inspection.

Notice: To obtain cover, you must sign the original of the Rental Agreement in the insurance box. PAI does not cover personal belongings in the vehicle.

This service provides the assistance. The cost of this service will be for the renter's account.

NB. Towing fees will be charged in the event of a breakdown.

Trauma Counselling

Trauma Counselling Service offers a professional telephonic counselling service to the renters who find themselves victims of hi-jacking, car theft, robbery or general accident and motor related trauma.

If further counselling is required, we will pay up to R5 000 per annum per beneficiary for a consultation with a therapist, psychiatrist or psychologist.

Directions Service

This service allows the driver access to directions throughout South Africa, whether it is a specific street address should they be lost, or whether you require directions for the shortest route to a specific area etc.

Claims Assistance

24-hour vehicle accident claims procedure and accommodation assistance.

Privacy Policy

All information obtained through the Avis Web site is confidential. Information is requested to make your visit to the Avis Web site more productive and to provide a better Avis car rental experience.

IP Data

When you enter the Avis Web site, we collect your IP address. The IP address identifies your Internet Service Provider, but does not identify you as an individual. Security

Credit card information is not required to make a reservation on the Avis Web site. However, any service applications that require personal data such as credit card information are protected by Secure Socket Layer (SSL). SSL is a technology used to encrypt your information during transmission.

Email Usage

In some instances, Avis may require your e-mail address in order to make a car rental reservation on our Web site. Your email address is used only to send an email confirmation of your reservation. Your email address is also required on forms requesting information, so that we may respond to you via email. Email addresses are only collected for profile use with your expressed permission. Avis only sends email to consumers who have elected to receive promotions and special offers via email.
